Code With Me, the collaborating coding tool will be unbundled from JetBrains IDEs soon, then it (the plugin and the online relay) will be abandoned in Q1 2027. Source.
I’m not surprised, as Code With Me was still a bit buggy, and better and free alternatives exist, like the good old screen sharing. I think most developers simply didn’t need Code With Me.
This is bad news if you enjoyed using it, but it also serves as a reminder that when a commercial product doesn’t generate enough revenue (either directly or indirectly), it’s normal to discontinue it.
I’ve also read here and there that JetBrains is discontinuing too many products, but I think that’s perfectly normal when a company has a broad product portfolio. You know, it’s like making mistakes: those who do nothing never make mistakes 😙. And no, they don’t invest all their money in AI, even if it has to be said they’re struggling a bit in that sector, but that’s another story.
